Universities got approved by NUC for Imo StateMay 9, 2019
Scarcely three weeks after the endorsement of the new University of Agribusiness and Environmental Sciences in Imo State, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has affirmed three new universities for the State government.
The newly endorsed institutions are University of Innovative Technology, Omuma, University of Medical Sciences, Ogboko and University of Science and Technology, Onuimo, which acquires the quantity of state universities Imo to six.
Speaking at a gathering to pass on the endorsement to Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State on Tuesday in Abuja, Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, said the institutions have met every one of the requirements important for their acknowledgment.
“Every one of the requirements have been met, the records have been introduced and the laws setting up the universities passed by the State House of Get together have likewise been exhibited. We thus formally perceive the foundation of these universities,” the NUC supervisor said.
Prof. Rasheed said the Commission would work out new educational modules for the new universities as most programs the institutions will run are inventive and would require gigantic contribution of nuc. He, in any case, said that the testament of endorsement of the new universities would be dispatched to the governor before the day’s end or before the week runs out.
Speaking, Governor Okorocha revealed that the fundamental point of setting up the new institutions was to bring development to country areas and increment access to university education.
He clarified that in the previous seven years the state has the highest number of students seeking university admission in the nation, saying, “it is just 20 percent of them that are conceded.
This will offer admission to the 80 percent who are denied admission and are wandering the roads.”
On the funding of the new universities, Okorocha said sufficient courses of action have been set up to guarantee issue of financial challenges are not related with the running of the institutions.
